Paintings For Drivers
Paul Conneally
Birmingham 2019
Involuntary Paintings found during artist Cathy Wade’s ‘Paradise Remix’ walking out and through Birmingham from Vivid Projects – a work directly connected via link and shift to Heather Powell’s 1988 film Paradise Circus.
As I photograph and film these involuntary paintings in Birmingham Cathy Wade remarks to me that they are ‘paintings for cars’ and I’m feeling that in cities which seem to be designed primarily around and for vehicles that many involuntary paintings will be seen and become part of the daily experience of thousands of drivers a day they may even mark place and time for them as they commute from home to work, work to home.
