The artist Zdzisław Beksiński dies on February 21, 2005, at the age of 75.

He is killed by a teenager, Robert Kupiec, the son of his caretaker and cleaning lady.

Kupiec enters the apartment along with an accomplice and demands a small monetary loan of about $100. The old man refuses. Kupiec demands again. He is refused again. After the refusal multiple stab wounds follow, 17 in all.

Beksiński bleeds out on his apartment floor.

Robert Kupiec is eventually caught and pleads guilty. He is sentenced to 25 years in prison.
