Bradgate House,Bradgate Park, Leicestershire
Paul Conneally 2021
Bradgate House is now a ruin but was once the family home of Lady Jane Grey (The Nine Day Queen). She was beheaded on the orders of Queen Mary on 12 February 1554. The English Oaks that line the track through the park were (and are) pollarded in memory of Lady Jane getting her head chopped off. She was by all accounts being used by powerful men to gain more power by seating her on the throne and acting as her ‘advisers’.
The park is beautiful and is held in trust for and by the people of Leicester and Leicestershire.
