‘Exit’ – Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield

‘EXIT’
I’ve taken to using the back stairs as opposed to the hospital elevators. I meet a few people on the stairs. Staff in the main but also visitors who can’t wait for the three working visitor elevators. The staircase is full of echoes and reverberations. A place of spirits and incantations. Words muttered under the breath, tears.

an unseen voice
“Don’t worry dad she’ll be out
before Christmas”
