DISINTEGRATING HISTORIES – JUST PASSING BY
Saturday 18th January – Sunday 23rd February Snibston Discovery Museum, Coalville, Leicestershire, UK.
This photographic exhibition by young, artist Chris Mear represents his explorations of the changing landscape following the closure of the North West Leicestershire mines and discussions with ex-miners and their families in their homes.
“Coal mining was one of this country’s greatest industries… it was central to the region’s economy and communities. I was born at the point when coal mining ceased in this county. Between 2009 and 2011, twenty years after the final pit closed in Leicestershire, I set about photographing this area and its industrial and social heritage.”
