Leicestershire artist Shauna Richardson spent two years creating the largest single-handed crochet sculpture in the world to celebrate the Cultural Olympiad 2012.
‘Lionheart’ features three enormous crocheted lions which represent the ‘three lions’ of Richard III and England.
Shauna calls herself a ‘crochetdermist’.
Her work, though forward looking, is deeply rooted in the East Midlands’ textile heritage and history.
You can’t get a sense of the size of the piece or how it works in its crossover of fine art and craft skills unless you stand by it, walk around the glass caged lions. It’s now on display for the rest of 2013 at Snibston Discovery Museum, Leicestershire.
Well worth a visit.
